BAYVIEW STUDENT LEADERS

Student leadership is an important part of the Bayview community.

Student leaders play a vital role in setting the tone, modelling integrity, and inspiring others to contribute meaningfully. Beyond the specific duties and responsibilities outlined in their position description, all Bayview leaders are expected to demonstrate key behaviours, values and actions outlined below.

Election Process & Timeline

In Term 3, Bayview Leadership staff will oversee the student election process for all Bayview leadership positions. Applicants will be shortlisted, and interviews will be conducted by the Head and a Deputy Head of Bayview.

Following the application and interview process, two students entering Year 8 will be appointed to each of the leadership positions outlined below towards the end of Term 4.

While these are formal elected positions, Bayview places strong emphasis on the philosophy of “Leadership for All”, recognising that true leadership is defined by action, not position.

General responsibilities and expectations
  • Be supportive of and display the School Values at all times. 
  • Have outstanding Learning Behaviours in all subject areas. 
  • Set a high standard as a leader of the School community, with particular respect to appearance, attitude, behaviour, punctuality, participation, and work habits. 
  • Attend all compulsory events in the School calendar, including Awards Celebration Evening, Service of Lessons and Carols, Greet ‘n Games, information nights, etc. 
  • Support the faith and worship aspects of School life, including attending Communion Services (8.00 – 8.30am twice per term). 
  • Be a responsible user of ICT in line with the Safe School Environment & ICT Usage Policy outlined in the School diary.
  • Be an ‘upstander’ if witnessing something that does not align with the School Values. 
  • Support activities organised by other School leaders. 
Bayview Leaders (Captains) Responsibilities

Role Overview: These are the most senior student leadership positions at Bayview and require a high level of commitment, initiative, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build connections with students by visiting Years 7 & 8 Mentor Rooms during Roll Call/Mentor sessions.
  • Represent the School at key events: speaking at assemblies, tours, and official functions.
  • Demonstrate a positive, proactive attitude and uphold the School Values in all settings.
  • Support the Head & Deputy Heads of Bayview, and the Year 8 Coordinators, in various initiatives.
  • Model exemplary behaviour, leadership, and dress standards for other students.
  • Engage with students in the playground and provide assistance when needed.
  • Contribute articles to Bayview and/or School communications and publications as requested.
  • Chair and lead meetings of the Bayview Student Leadership Team.
  • Coordinate and present at assemblies alongside the Year 8 Leadership Team.
  • Work collaboratively with Year 8 Coordinators to develop leadership skills and participate in relevant programs.
  • Assist in the organisation and running of Bayview campus events and activities.
  • Attend Communion services before school each term.
  • Work with other School leaders on key initiatives and programs where applicable.
Year 8 Leaders Responsibilities: The Arts | Wellbeing | Sustainability | Social Service | Sport

Role Overview: Year 8 student leaders play an important role in representing and supporting the Bayview student community across key areas of school life. They are expected to lead by example, contribute to the running of events, and actively promote the School Values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the student body at school and community events, including Open Days, Information Nights, and School Tours.
  • Assist in the organisation of events, cocurricular activities, and assemblies.
  • Model exemplary behaviour, uphold the School Values, and maintain high standards of conduct and presentation.
  • Support the Year 8 Coordinators, Deputy Heads of Bayview, and Head of Bayview as required.
  • Participate in leadership workshops and activities to develop teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with Year 8 Coordinators to help plan and deliver student events or programs.
  • Bring forward student ideas, concerns, and suggestions to leadership meetings for discussion and action.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow leaders and other portfolio leaders across the School to identify and address issues within the School community.
  • Attend Bayview Leadership meetings at lunchtime or after school as needed.
Actions that may jeopardise a leadership position
  • Unexplained absence from class or cocurricular activities where the leader has made a commitment to attend or unexplained non-attendance of official duties. 
  • Poor Learning Behaviours.  
  • Any major or repeated minor infringements of School expectations.
