All students in Year 5 and above have access to download the MS Office 365 Suite to their laptops, in order to facilitate learning and the submission of set tasks in the correct format.

• These applications include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.

Office 365 also includes the Microsoft OneDrive application – similar to Dropbox – files saved to the OneDrive folder automatically sync to cloud storage (online backup).

• Each student is allocated 5TB (terabytes) of secure personal storage space which can be accessed from any device with an internet connection.

As a Microsoft school, our students in Years 5 – 12 have access to a wide range of applications. The list of these can be accessed by students, through their Campus Teams.

NAPLAN Software
During Term 1, Years 7 & 9 students will be required to install NAPLAN software on their devices. If students have restricted admin privileges, families will be expected to assist in installing the software. Instructions will be provided for this process.

Training and guidance is provided to students at the start of each year through Mentor and Campus sessions.

IMPORTANT: Students must save all school files on the MENTONE GRAMMAR ONEDRIVE so that files can be restored if they are accidentally deleted, or the device is damaged.

In addition to the Microsoft suite, students in Year 7 and above also have access to the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite to complete Art and Design subject tasks on their own devices.

All students in Years 5 – 12 are required to bring their own device (BYOD) to school every day to support their classroom learning.

• BYOD devices need to be either a Windows Laptop or Apple MacBook. Please note that if you set up parental controls, installing software and adding printers (such as outlined below) will require your administrator password.
• Google Chromebook or tablet devices (e.g., iPad) are not suitable primary devices as certain software used in class cannot be installed on them. Tablets can still be used as a secondary device (e.g., checking emails, taking photos).
• The School will provide all educational resources such as email, and the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) which is the School’s teaching, learning and student communication platform. Computer labs are available for subjects that may require specialist software or hardware tools. 

• Have minimum specifications of:
  • 13″ screen size
  • 8GB of RAM minimum (recommended 16GB RAM)
  • Minimum Processor: Intel i5/Intel Ultra 5/AMD Ryzen 5/AMD Athlon Gold/Apple M2/or equivalent
  • 256GB of storage capacity (solid state drive is preferable)
• Have a current supported version of operating system (Microsoft Windows 11 or macOS 26 Tahoe)
• Have up-to-date security including setting up antivirus software, firewall, and operating system updates
• Have a working webcam, microphone, and speakers inbuilt
• Have a working charger and pair of headphones (earbuds, on-ear or over-ear) 
• It is recommended having a protective case

• The School does not provide brand or retailer recommendations.
• The selection of devices is entirely a family decision.
• Devices should not be older than three (3) years due to reliability and ability to effectively run modern software used in learning and teaching.
• Students must ensure that their device is fully charged before they arrive at school each day.
• All devices should have a strong password or security code enabled.
• Hardware and software not provided by the School is the responsibility of the student/parents.
• All data and backups are the responsibility of the student/parents.
• When not in class, devices are to be locked in student lockers.
• The School is not responsible for replacing lost, stolen, or damaged devices (or related accessories).
• Please consider asking your retailer about extended warranty or accidental damage protection and for education pricing.
• You may also wish to investigate the inclusion of these items in your home contents insurance policy.
• The school will supply students with the following software as required:
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
