ELC & JUNIOR SCHOOL FOOD SAFETY
Keeping every child safe and healthy is a shared responsibility.
To protect students with allergies and other dietary needs, with a particular focus on students in our ELC and Junior School (F – Year 6), we ask all families to follow our food safety guidelines and be mindful of what is brought to school.
By working together and following these protocols, we can ensure a safe and inclusive environment where all children can enjoy positive eating experiences.
Our Centre is committed to promoting nutrition, sustainability, and recycling as part of our learning environment. We encourage healthy eating habits and eco-friendly practices to support children’s wellbeing and awareness of their impact on the world. Please review the guidelines below.
Our ELC is nut-free!
- Please do not bring food with nuts or nut by-products to the ELC
- For students with allergies, please inform staff and you will be required to provide a doctor signed Allergy Plan and complete a Risk Assessment Form and Communication Plan.
- Pack lunch with your child to encourage independence and discuss what to eat when.
- Use named reusable containers to reduce waste; avoid excessive packaging.
- Provide a labelled water bottle.
- Keep portions small and manageable – quality over quantity. Uneaten food will be sent home.
- Focus on healthy eating and limit treats – food suggestions include fresh or dried fruit, sliced vegetables, cheese, meat slices, dry biscuits with spread, sandwiches, rolls, sushi.
- Use an ice pack to keep food fresh.
- For warm lunches, send the meal in a clearly labelled thermos, but NO hot liquids. Staff can assist with opening containers but CANNOT MICROWAVE food for students.
- Lunch orders can be pre-booked for ELC students via the School’s onsite cafés and the Flexischools system (see below for details).
- For more information, refer to our ELC Nutrition, Oral Health & Active Play Policy linked below.
We understand that birthdays are special moments for children. To celebrate safely in the ELC, please follow these guidelines:
Please do not provide food products to share in the ELC.
Instead, please opt for simple party bags with items such as:
- Whistles
- Bubbles
- Pencils
- Play necklaces, wands, pirate patches
- Coloring books or storybooks
This approach ensures all children can join in the celebration, regardless of allergies or dietary restrictions.
Food sharing is not permitted or encouraged at any time in our Junior School.
To support the health and wellbeing of all students and in line with our School’s Anaphylaxis Policy, food items, such as lolly bags, cupcakes, or similar treats should not be brought to school for distribution to students at any time, including for special occasions such as birthdays.
To best support student safety, particularly for those with allergies, we are only able to accept lunches or snacks intended for your own child. If required, these can be dropped off at the Junior School Office, and we will ensure they are delivered promptly to your child.
