FROGMORE: YEAR 10
Year 10 is the beginning of the Senior School journey. This is an important and exciting stage of secondary education, where students are encouraged to grow in independence, responsibility, and self-belief while preparing for the years ahead.
Year 10 is a year of transition as students move into a more purposeful and future-focused phase of learning. With increased expectations around organisation, commitment, and academic effort, students are supported to develop the skills and habits required for success in Senior pathways.
Alongside academic learning, Year 10 places strong emphasis on personal growth, wellbeing, leadership, and respectful relationships. Students are encouraged to explore their interests, reflect on their strengths, and begin making informed decisions about future pathways, whether that be VCE, or VCE-VM, or other post-school options.
The Frogmore team is committed to supporting every student throughout this year. A student’s House becomes a pivotal focus with high expectations, around punctuality and presentation supported by a structured pastoral care program to ensure that Year 10 students feel confident, challenged, and ready to take the next step in their learning.
Year 10 is not just about preparing for what comes next, it is about growing into capable, resilient, and motivated young people ready for future success.

In Term 1, our entire Year 10 cohort journeys to the Bellarine Peninsula for 5-day action packed Learning Journey.
This camp provides a great opportunity to build community and relationships within the Year 10 cohort and assist in developing relationships with their House Coordinator who will be their support throughout their Frogmore Journey.
Students will challenge themselves through team building and adventure activities that facilitate student learning about themselves, their peers, and the environment.
All students and staff travel to/from Mentone together, then split into 10 House groups for activities.
Camp usually takes place in the last week of February (Approximately Week 5, Term 1).
An integral part of our Year 10 Careers Education Program, is the Morrisby Assessment. This comprehensive online career profiling system provides an objective measure of a range of aptitudes, including interests and personality. Further information can be found via this link:
Information is used to provide suggestions around careers, study areas and subjects in preparation for VCE or VCE VM (Vocational Major) subject selection.
Testing Process
- Testing takes place at the end of Term 1
- 2026 Date: Thursday 19 March
- Students complete several assessments and questionnaires (around 1 hour 40 mins).
- Students new to Mentone Grammar who may have already completed the Morrisby Assessment at a previous school should contact the Careers Centre.
- Prior to the assessment, students are advised to complete practice questions at home to familiarise themselves with the style of questions (takes around 10 mins to complete).
After completing Morrisby
Individual profiles will be released from the day after testing is complete:
- A follow-up email will be sent with instructions on how to access and interpret results.
- Students and parents attend a compulsory ‘unpacking Morrisby seminar’:
- 2026 Date: Monday 23 March | 6.30 – 7.30pm | Thorold Theatre
- Students continue to utilise Morrisby resources in our Future You program in Term 2, as part of the process for selecting their Year 11 subjects.
- Individual 15-minute pathway interviews between students and the Careers Practitioners begin in early-May through to late July, with subject selections due early August.
The aim of the Work Experience program is to give students an opportunity to explore career options, develop some of the key employability skills and learn more about the world of work and its relationship to subjects and study at school.
Year 10 students participate in either the Cadet Program or Work Experience during Term 3.
Students need to submit a ‘Work Experience Planning Form’ to the Careers Centre or via email by the end of Term 2: workexperience@mentonegrammar.net.

- Students participating in Cadets who also wish to complete Work Experience, can do so over the school term breaks during Year 10 or Year 11.
- Excludes Christmas break as Victorian Work Experience legislation prohibits Work Experience between School Calendar years.
- Work Experience requires careful planning and preparation and cannot be arranged at the last minute due to paperwork that needs organising for legal requirements.
- Placements with immediate family are discouraged.
- Before work experience starts, students will update their resumes and attend mock interviews. They are also required to complete the Occupational Health and Safety online training modules (Safe@work). These sessions will be facilitated by Careers and teaching staff.
- Once the placement is confirmed a ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’ will be prepared for parent/carer, student and employer signatures. All official paperwork is to be finalised by mid-Term 3.
The Pathways & Careers team will provide regular updates to families and additional information can be found on the Careers Website.
Year 10 examinations will take place during the scheduled exam periods: mid-year and end of year. The exam timetable will be available to students via Canvas and sent to parents during Term 2 & Term 4.
- Exams allow students to consolidate learning and practise exam techniques, and all students are encouraged to do their best.
- During the exam period, Year 10 students will be on Study Leave and need only attend school for scheduled exams.
- A supervised study space will be available for students who wish to remain at school between exams; however, spaces will be limited and strictly silent space for individual study.
- Students must be familiar with examination rules and approved materials for each subject and bring all required equipment, including charged calculators where applicable.
- Students applying for an accelerated VCE subject in Year 11 are required to complete examinations in all subjects.
- If a student has an examination clash or exceptional circumstances, they will be provided with instructions via Canvas on how to apply for consideration.
If your child is unwell and unable to attend an examination, notify the Frogmore Office. A medical certificate will be required, and the examination will be rescheduled.
All Year 10 students complete an Educational Skills Profile (ESP) Test in Term 1 which includes a series of assessments in Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, Spelling, Written Expression and Reasoning. These results provide a measure of each student’s academic progress in comparison with peers across Victoria.

- ESPT is scheduled on a day with no scheduled classes so students must make their own way to/from School.
- Students cannot prepare for these tests and should not feel anxious about the experience.

Testing Process & Reporting
Tests are conducted by Academic Assessment Services and offer valuable insights for the year ahead. Alongside internal assessments and NAPLAN data, the results help us tailor learning and teaching for individual students and classes. They also assist in identifying students who may benefit from additional support, enrichment or extension.
Parents receive an ESPT report for their child.
In Term 1 each year, the City of Kingston Immunisation Team attends Mentone Grammar to deliver the Meningococcal ACWY for Year 10 students:

Parents/Carers must provide consent via the Department of Health’s Central Immunisation records Victoria (CIRV) online portal to confirm if you are consenting YES or NO to the vaccination being done at school. Vaccinations will not be given to a student without Parent or Guardian consent.
- 2026 Consent Completion Date: Sunday 29 March | 5.00pm
If your child is absent from school, you will need to arrange the immunisation through Kingston Council community sessions or your local GP.
Year 10 students have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of cocurricular programs, which play an important role in supporting wellbeing, personal development and a balanced school experience.
