STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROCESS

Student leadership plays an important role in fostering a positive, inclusive and aspirational school culture.

Leadership opportunities enable students to develop confidence, responsibility and character while contributing meaningfully to the life of the School. Through senior leadership roles, students learn to represent others, model positive behaviours and support their peers and community.

Leadership Attributes

Our student leadership program recognises students who demonstrate commitment, integrity and a willingness to serve.

While positions are limited, the process itself encourages courage, growth, reflection and resilience, reinforcing that leadership is defined by actions and attitude, not titles alone.

Student leaders are not selected for grades or accolades, but for embodying a positive attitude and outstanding learning behaviours, living out both key attributes, and reinforcing the Mentone Spirit.

General Responsibilities & Position Descriptions

In addition to the specific duties and responsibilities outlined in the position descriptions (click on the link below for details), all student leaders are expected to:

  • Be supportive of and display the School’s Values
  • Have outstanding Learning Behaviours in all subject areas
  • Set a high standard as a leader of the School community, with particular respect to appearance, attitude, behaviour, punctuality, participation and work habits.
  • Support the School at all times, both on and off c
  • Attend all compulsory events in the School calendar, including House events, Awards Celebration Evening, Service of Lessons and Carols.
  • Support the faith and worship aspects of school life.
  • Be a responsible user of ICT in line with Safe School Environment & ICT Usage Policy outlined in the School Diary.
  • Support activities organised by other School Leaders
  • Attend and lead a minimum of one School Tour/Open Day

Before applying for positions, students must accept these general responsibilities and expectations. Under exceptional circumstances and after consultation, students who not meet these expectations may be stood down from their position or their nomination may be declined.

It is expected that all elected leaders will undertake a period of leadership training, which will include some out of school hours.
